Privacy policy

The short version

MyStepsToMiles has no accounts and no sign-up. The steps you type, your walk log and your first name are stored only in your own browser. We never receive them.

What stays in your browser

To remember your choices, the site saves these items in your browser's local storage on your device:

  • your last calculator inputs, such as steps, mode, height, sex and pace
  • your walk log: the date, steps, distance and accuracy mode of each walk you log
  • your first name, if you choose to give one
  • your choice of light or dark mode, your share card colour and the language you pick

This information is not sent to us or to anyone else. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Clearing it also deletes your walk log, so use Download my log first if you want to keep a copy.

Share cards and links

Share cards are drawn in your browser. When you share one, your device's own share menu sends it to the app you pick, under that app's privacy policy. Links made with Copy link include your inputs in the address, such as your steps and height, so anyone you send the link to can see them.

Google Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use. When it is switched on, Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id>, which by default last up to 2 years (Google Analytics cookie usage). It does not receive your walk log or your name.

Google's use of this information is described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We may show ads through Google AdSense in the future. If we do, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads, measure them and, where allowed, personalise them based on your visits to this and other sites (how Google uses cookies in advertising). You can control ad personalisation in Google's ad settings. Where the law requires it, we'll ask for your consent before these cookies are set, and we'll update this page before ads go live.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings at any time. The calculator keeps working without them, but it won't remember your inputs or your walk log.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
